Prior to the rebirth in widespread recognition for female rappers at the turn of this decade, Miami-bred rapper Trina stood as one of the few women dominating hip-hop in a post-Missy Elliott landscape. In the nine years since the release of her last full-length LP Amazin’, with the help of her team, Trina has cranked out multiple EPs, mixtapes, and now formed her own label “Rockstarr Music Group”. Today, the release of her sixth album “The One” signals Trina’s return to the public consciousness: across 15 different tracks, “da baddest” rapper in the 305 teams up with some of the biggest names in hip-hop for a feature-packed return to mainstream music. — via Chris Malone
The most talked about collaboration and new single features Nicki Minaj titled “BAPS,” “BAPS” samples the 2000 song “Project Bitch,” from New Orleans rap duo Big Tymers featuring Juvenile (who sings the chorus of “BAPS”), and also features a distinctive Ms. Pac-Man-like sound effect over its beat, produced by Audio Jones. It is the fourth collaboration between Nicki and Trina, following “5 Star (Remix)” with Yo Gotti and Gucci Mane, “Sex In Crazy Places” with Gucci Mane and Bobby V and “Dang A Lang” from Trina’s fifth studio album Amazin’.
The album also features 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne, LightskinKeisha, Dave East, Plies Boosie, Rico Love, and Sevyn!
